Written by my friend Josh Shephard, the popular Bangkok based Southeast Asia travel blogger discovering the best places to visit in Thailand.
Bangkok is a very busy city.
The streets are jammed with traffic and the sidewalks with street vendors selling everything you can imagine.
Some days it can be difficult to walk home from the BTS (Skytrain) station let alone go for a run.
However here I’m going to give you the top 5 best outdoor workout places in Bangkok that I’m sure you’re going to love.
Best of all, they’re all totally free!
1) Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park
Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park is a Botanical wetland garden set on Bang Krachao Island in the heart of Bangkok.
The gardens are closed to motorcycles which means that the footpaths are reserved to people rather than light traffic.
Getting to Bang Krachao is simple.
Get in a taxi down to Bangna pier and jump on a 2 minute ferry ride crossing the Chao Praya River.
You’ll be there before you know it.
2) Chatujak Rotfai Park
Chatujak is probably most well-known for its massive weekend market and the following Rotfai night markets.
However head just a little further north and you’ll quickly discover what is one of Bangkok’s largest inner city parks.
Chatujak Park is paved with a 3km double lane cycle and jogging route.
A perfect place to go for a run without the heavy traffic.
Just watch out for the massive monitor lizards!
3) Queen Sirikit Park
Queen Sirikit Park is that massive green area just up the road from Asoke BTS.
Hardly visible form he BTS line, this park is a hidden city gem yet super easy to access.
Queen Sirikit Park is open from the early hours during the week which makes for a great morning jogging location.
It is super easy to get to work afterwards if you happen to be based in Asoke.
4) Benjasiri Park (Has Pull Up Bars and Weights)
Benjasiri Park is within 10-20 minutes distance if you’re located close to any of these Skytrain stations:
- Phrom Pong BTS.
- Ekkamai BTS.
- Asoke BTS.
- Phra Khanong BTS.
This park offers a decent jogging track and two separate outdoor gyms.
The workout areas are very basic, almost prison like feel with their concrete barbells cast in flower pots.
But most importantly if you’re following the Skinny-Fat Transformation bodyweight training program, there are pull up bars!
5) Lumpini Park
If you’re based around the Sathorn side of town then Lumpini Park is your best option for a bit of outdoor fitness.
This massive park offers a nice jogging track surrounding the large pond.
Lumpini Park is a popular place of fitness orientated MeetUps ranging from Yoga to Cycling to Running.
